Recap: Spring Wine Fest 2011

On Saturday, Z and I had the honor of attending the Spring Wine Fest 2011 at Cyclorama in Boston, courtesy of Boston Event Guide. We attended the 12 to 3 p.m. session, and the line outside the door a little after 12 made me nervous we'd be waiting in long lines and fighting crowds for the morning.

However, upon walking in to Cyclorama, I was pleasantly surprised to see how spaced out the tasting tables were - resulting in few lines and next to zero crowds.

I've been to Cyclorama once before, but somehow I forgot how funky and artsy the place is - it was the perfect venue for an event like this one!

Z and I sampled a variety of wines at the event, and chatted with some of the very passionate vendors. Although I did not particularly dislike any of the wines (or beers...or cheeses) we sampled throughout the early afternoon, here are a few of my favorites from the tasting:

I love the name of this red wine, but I also loved the bold, rich flavor.

Boston Winery - White Merlot
This wine was by far my (and Z's) favorite. Despite the appealing, bright pink color, this wine was also refreshing, perfectly dry and only slightly sweet. This would be the perfect wine to drink (chilled) on a hot summer day!

Blue Hills Brewery - Watermelon Wheat
Who knew there'd be beer at a wine tasting? I'm not usually a fan of fruity beers, but this watermelon wheat brew was crisp, refreshing and had just a hint of fresh watermelon flavor.

In addition to the wine, Z and I sampled a truckload of cheese. Cabot and Yancey's Fancy were on hand to share their cheese samples. Cabot had their cheddar and horseradish creations, while Yancey's had a spread of champagne, wasabi, buffalo, jalapeno peppadew and other creative samples. I need to find Yancey's in the grocery store, stat - apparently their products are sold at Stop and Shop and Hannaford (to name a few).

Finale was also there to give chocolate lovers their fix with generous samples of their dense, flourless, addictive chocolate cake.

For those three hours at the event, Z and I ate (and drank) like royalty. The Spring Wine Fest was well organized, there was a great variety of food and beverage vendors, and Cyclorama was the perfect venue to hold the event at. The crowd and vendors were well spaced out, and we could easily take our time trying samples and just enjoying the event.

How was your weekend? Were you able to enjoy some of the beautiful weather on Sunday?

Disclaimer: Z and I attended the Spring Wine Fest free of charge, thanks to the generous folks at Boston Event Guide. Despite their generosity, the opinions expressed in this post are 100% my own.
