Catering

In addition to food writing, I am also a private caterer and professional cook. I specialize in creating and executing vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free menus that highlight seasonal and mostly local ingredients.

Background:
My first job 15 years ago involved slinging doughnuts and making coffee for 10 hours per day. Since then, my food service experience has also included professional catering (for weddings and small parties), ice cream scooping, and being a sous chef for private dinner parties. I also have over 8 years' experience as a professional food writer and restaurant reviewer, and I am ServSafe Certified.

The Way I Cook:
Simple yet elegant, meatless dishes comprised of quality, seasonal ingredients. I'm a big fan of healthier recipes that are packed with flavor, but not full of unnecessary, illegible components. I'm also a huge supporter of local farms, and do as much of my grocery shopping as I can at local farmers' markets and locally owned grocery stores.

Services:
I cater everything from at-home dinner parties to office luncheons to bridal showers. I'm happy to work with you and create a menu for almost any function at your home or office. I also teach private cooking lessons, and can provide weekly meals for you and/or your family.

Pricing:
I typically charge an hourly rate, which includes the cost of menu planning, shopping, cooking, and clean-up, plus the cost of groceries. I am more than happy to help accommodate almost any budget.

  1. Michelle catered a dinner party of mine and the entire evening went off without a hitch, it could not have gone any better!
I had 8 friends over, she made appetizers, a meal, and dessert - all of which was liked (if not loved) by all! You could tell everything was made fresh and went perfectly with the season (spring time then). It was a great feeling to host a dinner party and not have to worry about .... anything! I poured some drinks for my friends and that was about it. I got to sit back and enjoy the company of everyone while Michelle prepared the food, served everyone, told us about the dishes, and cleaned everything afterwards. The timing was perfect, no part of the meal ever felt rushed, to be honest it was smoother than going out to eat at a restaurant! Michelle was very professional and accommodating to everyone's needs. (She took time beforehand to learn if there were any food allergies) I would absolutely recommend her for any catering needs, and I look forward to doing this again myself!

  2. I attended a dinner party which was catered by Michelle. We were invited to a lovely, intimate meal at a close friend's home. It was such a treat to enjoy the setting of a home cooked meal without the sometimes inevitable hustle and bustle that goes along with helping out the host/hostess. We enjoyed appetizers followed by a lovely salad, entree and dessert. I had not enjoyed food this fresh for a long time. I enjoyed Michelle's descriptions about the ingrediants as she arrived to the dining room with each course. The flavor was incredible. My husband and I were talking about it for weeks!
